SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Rainbow Cotton’ Coming Soon, Plus ‘Power of Ten’ and Today’s Other Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for March 20th, 2024. In today’s article, we deal with a relatively slow Wednesday. There are a couple of news items, which is a nice break from the usual routine. We’ve also got a couple of non-Bin new releases to check out, and that’s rather pleasant too. After that, it’s the usual closing with some fresh new sales and a healthy reminder of the discounts that are due to expire soon. Let’s get to what we’ve got!

News

The Last Spirit Board Event for ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Arrives on Friday

No, really! It’s the last one this time, for sure! Well, I can’t promise that. But for now, this is the final Spirit Board event planned for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It brings in Spirits from Princess Peach: Showtime and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and if you defeat those Spirits during the event you’ll earn some extra gold. The event begins this Friday and will run for five days, so make sure you get while the getting is good. Come on, you know you want Elephant Mario in your collection.

‘Rainbow Cotton’ Lands on Switch on May 9th, Sporting Plenty of Improvements

You know, it’s been really cool to see a series that is well-known for commanding high prices in the second hand market get reissued on modern consoles. Indeed, we have every distinct Cotton game available to buy on the Nintendo Switch in some form or another now, except one. And that one is about to be none, as Rainbow Cotton is finally releasing on May 9th courtesy of ININ Games. As it was originally a Dreamcast game, doing a quick and dirty emulated release probably wasn’t optimal, and thus we are getting a remake of sorts. You can play it as it was in Retro Mode, if you want. But if you’d prefer some improvements, you can look forward to better gameplay, spiffed up graphics, a new local co-op mode, and more. We’ll almost certainly be reviewing this one when it arrives, so do look forward to that.

New Releases

Power of Ten ($11.99)

This is a pretty solid multidirectional roguelite shooter. Fly around, blast baddies, rescue people, and upgrade your ship to make all of the aforementioned that much easier. It’s a relatively simple game without a whole lot to chew on, but the basic loop works really well and you might find yourself surprised at how often you find yourself going back to it. More like Power Often, I’d say. Okay, I’m leaving now. But I’ll back to write about the next game, so I won’t be gone long.

Master Maker 3D Ultimate ($4.99)

A simple 3D platformer with fifty pre-built stages and a level editor that allows you to do your own thing. It doesn’t look like you can share those levels, but it’s something at least. Also, if you finish the fifty normal stages, you’ll unlock hundreds of bonus stages to tackle. Not a bad value for a fiver, even if the basic mechanics are a bit… rough around the edges.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

A tiny, tiny list of new sales to consider. Nothing I’d really go running down the street screaming about, either. The outbox, though? There are a lot of goodies in there. Akai Katana, Ender Lilies, Elevator Action Returns, Cleopatra Fortune, and more are finishing up their latest deals. Check through both lists and see what catches your eye.

That’s all for today, friends. Tomorrow is Thursday, and there seems to be a good amount of titles on the schedule already. We’ll be taking a look at those, and then going through whatever new sales and big news items roll in during the next twenty-four hours. I set up a BlueSky account for TouchArcade today. If you’re on there, feel free to give us a follow. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
