Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Phew, it’s another blazing hot day here in Japan. Hot enough to melt my brain. I’ve still somehow managed to cobble together a list of interesting updates for you to take a gander at. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Fire Emblem Heroes, Free I guess we’re celebrating half-anniversaries now? Alrighty. This update adds a new type of event to the game called Binding Worlds. It’s not active yet, but it should be available a little later in the month. There are some new skills for Legendary Hero Alm and Mythic Hero Naga, and five new map types have been added to the Arena. Otherwise, it’s the usual stuff like mixing the assortment of heroes in upcoming summoning events.
Tiny Tower: 8 Bit Retro Tycoon, Free It’s summer time in the tower, and that means a summer event is kicking off. Keep your eyes open for VIPs and deliver them to earn points. When you reach certain thresholds, you’ll earn various rewards. Sure, who doesn’t like free goodies? Make sure to check in at the end of each week to claim those rewards, of course. There are also some bug fixes in this version, specifically with regards to the tech tree.
FINAL FANTASY IV, $13.99 Square Enix is still hammering away at some of the bugs and other issues in these Pixel Remasters, and Final Fantasy IV is the latest beneficiary of its efforts. As with other such updates, there are tons of fixes big and small here. Some interesting ones include readjusting the balance to make the game a bit harder, making enemy drop rates a bit higher, and adding a fun little hover graphical effect to flying enemies.
Subway Surfers Tag, A little too early for Subway Surfers Tag to be doing a world tour, I suppose. In lieu of that, the kids are headed for the rooftops. Wow, dangerous much? The new Rooftop arena is ready for action, so head on up and see what’s what. Other changes in this version include making it easier to keep your combos going longer, some improvements to the visuals, adjustments to the parameters of the missions to make them more challenging, and a few other bits and bobs.
LEGO® Brawls, LEGO is apparently 90 years old now. How many 90 year old toys are still so relevant? A few, probably. LEGO Brawls is celebrating the occasion with some limited-time gold champion minifigs, weapons, and power-ups. There are some new party-themed emotes, and a special LEGO Wooden Duck power-up that pays homage to the company’s early years. Play through the whole month and see if you can score a rare Mr. Gold minifig! I’ve never met the guy, but if I did I would probably offer to cut his hair and then make off with my ill-gotten wealth.
Crossy Road+, I guess Hipster Whale decided to cross the multiplayer road when they came to it. That time is now, as multiplayer support has been added to this Apple Arcade enhanced version of the now-classic crosser. Grab a controller, grab a friend, grab some potato chips, and get crossing!.
Marvel Contest of Champions, Free There’s always something going on this game, and this time it looks like a whole lot of shenanigans involving the Silver Surfer, Quicksilver, stolen Cosmic Seeds, and… Galan? Uh oh. They’re being all mysterious about him, but I imagine most Marvel fans know who that name belongs to. Besides the new events, Juggernaut has received an update that will hopefully help balance him out among the roster of Champions a bit.
Temple Run 2, Free The Blooming Sands are back! The lush map makes a return engagement, offering up plenty of coins and artifacts to collect while you beat your feet away from that Demon Monkey. Outrider Barry Bones and Shadow Walker Karma Lee are also back to have some adventures, and the Grizzled Guy Outfit and two new hats are here to decorate your heroes with. Hot.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free You know, with the new icon I was expecting a Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers event or something. Alas, that’s not what this latest version of Disney Heroes is about. Instead, our new character is Agent P from Phineas and Ferb. You know him, he’s the platypus from Where’s My Perry. Remember that? Weird time in mobile gaming history. Anyway, he is now part of the playable roster in this game. Add in some of those good old-fashioned bug fixes and game improvements, and that’s about it. Well, at least it’s still alive.
Brawlhalla, Free Oh, this is the last one. I guess it gets the coveted UMMSotW award for the week. I hope it’s worthy because it’s too late for me to turn the car around now. Let’s see… oh, that’s not bad. The latest Legend added to the game is Ezio, from Assassin’s Creed II and its two sequels. He seems to be a popular fellow. There’s also an Epic Crossover with Eivor, a new Bounty game mode, and more. Fire it up if you want to see all the details.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
