Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘PUBG Mobile: Aftermath’, ‘Final Fantasy V’, ‘Subway Surfers’, ‘Temple Run 2’, and More

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. We’ve got a little bit of everything in this week’s list, except for the obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game. I just couldn’t make it happen this time, and I must beg your forgiveness. If Jared doesn’t fire me, I shall make it up to you all next time. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

FINAL FANTASY V, $17.99 Watching how Final Fantasy V‘s Pixel Remaster has gone, it’s easy to see why Final Fantasy VI‘s Pixel Remaster got delayed a couple of months. Every bug the team fixes seems to create two more, which is understandable given how many moving parts this particular entry has. The game got two updates in the last week, one that fixed a few issues and one that fixed a crash bug in the ending that the first update accidentally added in. Will Final Fantasy V‘s issues be ironed out before Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster is released? Stay tuned.

Taiko no Tatsujin Pop Tap Beat, A new update for Taiko no Tatsujin means new songs, so what do we have this time? Maybe not a lot of stuff familiar to Western players, but songs are songs. The theme song from the 1978 Lupin the Third, the opening to children’s program Anpanman, another classical tune, and several Namco originals. There’s a wide range of difficulty among them, so you’ll have lots to sink your teeth into. Remember what Anpanman always says: “If you’re hungry, you can eat my face!"

LEGO® Star Warsâ„¢: Castaways, When you think LEGO, you think Star Wars. And when you think Star Wars, you think Castaways. Or something. I don’t really understand how this whole game came about, but whatever. This update allows you to own your own microfighter, customize your hair color, and engage in a few new activities in the social hub. Make sandcastles, go fishing, or just chill at the cantina or the beach. Just like in the movies. Luke making sandcastles while Han and Chewie catch crayfish off the end of the dock. You know.

Cut the Rope Remastered, Always interesting to see these updated versions of older games get some new content. This time, that new content takes the form of a short story with nine fresh levels to play. Om Nom’s family is going hiking, and some kind of circumstances are sure to ensue. Head into the wilderness and see if you can make it out with all the stars and a full belly. New Cut the Rope levels in 2022, my goodness.

Legends of Kingdom Rush - RPG, So you’re feeling like playing some Kingdom Rush, but you don’t want to commit to any campaign stuff. This latest version has you covered, friend. The new Quick-Play Arena mode tosses randomly assigned parties and combat parameters at you to see if you can handle the hordes. Battle some new Elite units, and see if you can win the top spot in the weekly leaderboard. That seems to be the lot for this update, but I’m sure it will keep some of you busy for a while.

Marvel Contest of Champions, Free We’re heading to the Savage Land again, it seems. Toad and Sauron are searching for their Brotherhood partners when they’re attacked by Ronin. They peel it out of there but quickly run into The Summoner. What’s all this about? Play the X-Men: Invasive Species event and you’ll find out. Lunar New Year is almost upon us, and there’s a special Quest aimed at newcomers to enjoy. Even if you’re a veteran, you may find some of its rewards worth picking up. Some UI improvements have also been made, reducing the number of loads you’ll run into and making it easier to see what’s new.

Subway Surfers, Free The Subway Surfers are on the move again, this time returning to Cairo again. Hey, a good location is worth revisiting. Take new Surfer Hasina out for a spin and show off her athletic skills, and try to earn the Anubis outfit for Festive Frank. The Atomic Tile board is also on offer for those who can get their hands on it, too. There are lots of rewards and other goodies to collect as you ride the rails among the statues and temples. Grab those event coins and tokens to see what you can nab.

Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free Hey, more heroes for the Disney Heroes. I find these updates more often than not include one safe character and one or two deep cuts, and this one is no exception. Our new safe character is Anna from Frozen 2, and I’m honestly surprised she took this long to join the game. As for the deeper cuts, Flik and Hopper from Pixar’s not-so-beloved Toy Story follow-up A Bug’s Life fill the role. Well, I liked it. Speaking of bugs, there are also some bug fixes. If I were less tired I would have made a pretty good joke of that, but things are what they are.

Temple Run 2, Free Freya and Sigur make their long-awaited return for a limited time as the Frozen Shadows tries to claim their souls yet again. Something tells me they’ll make it one way or the other. They’re only around for a limited time, so get in on the action while you can. Reclaim the lost treasures of the Vikings and try to stay one step ahead of danger. Hop into some new global challenges and see if you can take home some real treasures while you’re at it.

PUBG MOBILE: Aftermath, Free You know, if you had told me that I would earnestly be awarding the coveted UMMSotW award to PUBG Mobile, I don’t know what I would say. But here we are, and Spider-Man is in PUBG. The No Way Home collaboration sees the webspinner thwip his way into the popular battle royale game for some high-speed hijinks. Get your hands on a webshooter and get swinging yourself. There are a bunch of other things in this new version, but let’s be real: it’s all about the Spidey.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
