Square Enix Unveils Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin!

The rumors were absolutely true!

During E3 2021’s “Square Enix Presents” digital event, the game publisher unveiled a new Final Fantasy game with a very different feel from its predecessors. Titled Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin and described as an action RPG, the game is being developed by Team NINJA, the studio that gave us the modern Ninja Gaiden and Nioh series. Stranger of Paradise promises plenty of visceral, high-octane action. Check out the trailer below to see what we mean!

According to the official Square Enix press release, gamers will take on the role of Jack who possesses the abilities of different well-known FF jobs, such as warrior, dragoon, and mage. As Jack, you’ll be tackling famous Final Fantasy monsters with the aid of your allies Ash and Jed, two characters who also appear in the announcement trailer.

In addition to these three heroes, the trailer also previews a villainous fallen knight named Garland that you must battle. Long-time fans of the series will recognize Garland as the main antagonist of the original Final Fantasy game released way back on the NES in 1987.

Official details released about Stranger of Paradise haven’t yet confirmed that it takes place in the exact same world as the first ever Final Fantasy, and even if it does where it falls in that world’s timeline. But considering this revelation and the title of the game being Final Fantasy Origin, it’s a good bet that the two are connected, and that Final Fantasy Origin is some kind of prequel to the events of the first Final Fantasy.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin is set to release some time in 2022. An exact date is yet to be announced. The game will release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.

A trial sample version of the game will be available for free on the PS5 from now until June 24, 2021 7:59 pm PT.
